Community Moderation Is Fun

You may have noticed that Zoosk has been going through some changes, from a revamped theme to a completely redesigned Zooskbox. What you may not have noticed is that we have added one of your most requested features – community moderation. That girl look like jailbait? Report them. Guy stalking your Inbox? Report them. Zoosk admins are standing by to axe those trolls that are ruining your Zoosk experience.

Here is how it works – there are two places to report a user. The first you may already be familiar with. Any user you ignore through your Zooskbox is now reported to us here at Zoosk. Simply click the ‘Ignore User’ action on any user that is not playing by the rules and their profile is flagged for moderation. That simple. Your report is anonymous and confidential.

The second method is a bit more subtle. On a user’s profile, there is now an action located below their profile photo called ‘Inappropriate?’. Simply click that action and you will be presented with a list of abuses. Select the most appropriate abuse type and click ‘Report’. Congratulations, that user has now been called to our attention.

User’s whose profiles have been flagged for moderation will be reviewed and may be subject to action. If a photo is founded to be offensive, underage, not visibly identifying the owner, etc., it will be removed. Profiles and communications are subject to the same scrutiny. A user who has had an admin action taken against them will be notified by the admins via email.

If a user’s offense is found to be especially grievous or the user is a repeat offender, their account will be suspended and their privilege to use Zoosk revoked. Any subscription will be canceled and no refund will be given.

  1. I’m writing to ask if anyone actually checks the pictures, bearing in mind your comments regarding moderation, above. I am a little tired of pictures of cars, football shirts, groups of men where it is not clear who you are looking at, etc,. However what really WORRIES me is how many pictures I am coming across of what are clearly under-age boys, some considerably under 16. OK perhaps this is guys putting a picture of their son to make it clear they have kids, but when combined with the title ‘somebody’, I am sorry that is just not acceptable, it looks to me like paedos using Zoosk to network. Who in their right mind would put a pic of their kid, alone, without them in the shot, on such a site? They are obviously not interested in attracting a woman for themselves or they would put their own picture. This thing about pictures clearly identifying the owner does need sorting out- if it’s a pic of a dog or something I just ignore it, but when it’s a group, well, it’s a clever way of initiating contact getting people to ask ‘which guy are you’, but honestly, what’s the main point of this site? The PICTURE!!
    Thanks for this site tho’, it is great, I really enjoy it!
    One last thing, can you fix it so that when I flick into someone’s profile form my search, it doesn’t lose the search and make me start again? My cookies are enabled..

  2. Thanks for the feedback Michele. Right now our moderators mostly take action against underage users and inappropriate photos. But we are planning on helping our members to post photos that are best descriptive of them for potential dates :). It’s a gradual process and we agree with you that we should get to a place where most Zooskers have the best photos on the site. It’s a gradual process. Please bear with us.

    As for saving search results, I think it’s a great idea. I will put this on our roadmap for a near future release.

  3. Would it be possible to add a function on here that lets us know if someone is online or not, as sometimes when you send a message you dont know if the other person has read it yet. It can be a bit frustration waiting to see if you’ve got a reply to you’re message. Thanks

  4. @Louise: Thanks for the feedback. We are looking into ways to make message notifications more real time while on the site. Right now we should if somebody has been online recently but not necessarily right now to protect Zooskers’ privacy (some folks don’t want others to know they are online at a certain time).

  5. how come every time i try and send a comment/flirt to some one it comes up error as occured?? but if u never changed zoosk in the first place it would not of happend

  6. @Reiss: premium services are not available to all Zoosk members yet. If you don’t see anything about it, it most likely means that it’s not rolled out for your country.

  7. totaly agree with michele spratt there. think more moderation is required with the site regarding inappropriate users i.e. kids or folk with kids pics on. thats just wrong! its a dating site! i tell everyone i have a daughter but why would you “advertise” them? sick! i also dont think you should be able to make a profile with out adding a name and an age also.
    i have been reporting profiles i recon shouldn’t be there and they still keep appearing. why is this? here is a quote from one pic of a very young looking lady:
    “Single and looking :Dx3 If yer 14-16 mail meh :d;) Am onlii 14/ 15 soon btw :D”
    why was she even allowed that on her profile? she’s telling everyone she’s 14!!

    been really enjoying using zoosk, i hope and trust you can sort these problems out.

  8. When it states “Recently Online”, how long does that stay there before it goes?

    A couple of hours? Couple of days?

    Would be nice to know when messaging people if they are actually there or not.

    it’s about the “search” part of zoosk…
    can you please add an additional option on your “located within” part…
    it is limited up to only 160 km…
    can you make it like the option on the “daily matches” segment???
    where it has “planet earth” as an option on its location…

  10. i TRIED REPORTING AN UNDERAGE “JAILBAIT” USER BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. NOT ONLY DID SHE ADMIT TO ME SHE WAS ONLY 13 OR 15, BUT THEN SHE WAS RUDE TOWARDS ME AS WELL, AND ALSO INSULTED MY GOLDEN RETRIEVER, WHILE USING PROFANITY TO DO SO. AS FAR AS I KNOW, ZOOSK HAS NOT TAKEN ANY ACITON AGAINST HER

  11. I JOINED ZOOSK PREMIUM VIA FACEBOOK BUT I USE ZOOSK ON FACEBOOK AND HI5.COM . HOWEVER, MY PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP APPARENTLY ONLY COVERED CONVERSATIONS WITH ZOOSK FACEBOOK. I STILL COULDN’T RESPOND TO THOSE ON ZOOSK HI5.COM UNLESS I PAID ANOTHER MEMBERSHIP FEE. I CONTACTED ZOOSK AND ASKED THEM TO CONSOLIDATE BUT SO FAR NOTHING HAS CHANGED. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I WAS HAVING A LONG CONVERSATION EXTENDED OVER SEVERAL WEEKS WITH A NICE GAL AND SUDDENLY I WAS TOLD THAT SHE WAS A PREMIUM MEMBER AND THAT IF I WISHED TO CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION I WOULD HAVE TO BECOME A PREMIUM MEMBER ALSO. SO I BECAME A PREMIUM MEMBER AND RESUMED MY CONVERATION WITH HER BUT SHE SAID SHE WAS NOT A PREMIUM MEMBER.

    AND THEN ON ZOOSK HI5.COM SUDDENLY ALL CONVERSATIONS REQUIRED ME TO BECOME A PREMIUM MEMBER. EVEN AFTER I BECAME A PREMIUM MEMBER VIA FACEBOOK I STILL COULDN’T RESUME CONVERSATIONS ON ZOOSK HI5.COM THEY DON’T CONSOLIDATE THE LOGIN INFORMATION.

  13. hi, i play a game…report the underagers….see how many of them i can clear out of my seaches, and set new personal records….it passes the time while i look for suitable ladies for me…ive noticed that people i have reported last week are still coming up this week…. do you actually check any of these reports, or is this just some kind of legal ass covering? irish user.

  15. @angeline, @isabella: we are working on improving the search experience both by giving more options and also by saving the search criteria on subsequent visits. These changes will be on the site soon. Please bear with us.

  16. @chiefbigfaith, @barry: we get thousands of reports everyday. Our administrators are hard at work try to take action on all reports, but sometimes it takes a while for them to respond to every report. As soon as we get reports against the same user multiple times, they get elevated and responded to quicker. Please continue to tell us about improper use of the site or underage users. You are making Zoosk a better place for everybody 🙂

  17. @chiefbigfaith: We are working on account merge feature which would allow you to have the same experience even if you are using zoosk from multiple social networks. This feature will be released soon and we will let everybody know as soon as it’s out.

Why is it that although I have put up my address as Nigel Gauteng,South Africa, the system keep on sending me contacts from de Doorns in the cape more than 1800km away? please put some GPS in you systyem I would like to make contact with ladies in Gauteng, but more specific from the Eastrand.   22. Hi, I have tried over and over again to unsubscribe to the Zoosk application through Facebook but it has been unsuccessfull!
    4 months ago, my now fiance that I moved over 4 hours away to be with, was found through Zoosk!! I am the happiest I have ever been in the 38years I have been searching for the right man, we are engaged to be married and I thankyou Zoosk from the bottom of my heart!!
