Dr. Ian’s #1 tip is to stay positive. For more online dating tips, watch the short clip. It’s great advice!
Steve gave Chundria – who’d never dated online prior to using Zoosk – his 3 rules for a successful date after meeting someone online. Here’s a recap of Steve’s rules:
- Don’t reveal too much personal information about yourself right off the bat.
- To keep things short and sweet, make other plans for after the date.
- Don’t drink.
Obviously these tips aren’t for everyone – in fact, the audience disagreed a bit on the “don’t drink” rule – but they worked for Chundria. She met a nice guy on Zoosk – and they have plans to go on a second date!

The government shutdown has just entered its third week, leaving 800,000 employees out of the office without pay until the government reopens. It turns out that the furloughed folks have turned to online dating!
Zoosk’s user base of 40 million singles includes many DC-area daters. We decided to find out if there is any correlation between the government shutdown and dating…and it turns out that furloughed Washingtonians are flirting far more!
Comparing the week before the shutdown to the two weeks following, we discovered that the shutdown has certainly opened up the DC dating scene, specifically:
- More people looking to meet up: During the first and second week of the shutdown, the number of times DC-area Zoosk members have indicated a desire to meet up with another single through our Zoosk Carousel feature increased by 91.6% and 110%, respectively.
- More people are looking at profiles: During the second week of the shutdown, the number of profiles viewed by DC-area Zoosk members jumped by 45.6%.
- More instant messages are being sent: The second week of the shutdown showed a 48% increase in the number of instant messages sent between logged-in users in the DC area.
- More new active users are signing up: Zoosk saw new users in the DC area grow by 4.3% and 17.6% in the first and second week of the shutdown, respectively. These users have all verified their accounts and uploaded at least one photo.
In the wake of this frustrating situation, we’re glad that Zoosk’s mission of empowering people to lead a more fulfilling love life is bringing those out of work some happiness and, hopefully, some fantastic connections.
It’s National Singles Week! In the spirit of the holiday, Zoosk reached out to professional wingman Thomas Edwards to get the scoop on being a great wingman or wingwoman for our single friends. Here’s what he had to say:
A wingman looks good. And makes their friend feel good. You will only look as good as your wingman. By both dressing well, it’s very easy for you to stand out — you may not even have to worry about approaching people as they may come up to you to compliment your style choices.
A wingman needs to be trusted and reliable. As a wingman, you follow your friend’s lead — but this doesn’t always mean you have to “take one for the team.” If your friend hits it off with someone, your primary responsibility is to keep their friend occupied so it doesn’t affect your friend’s chances. Your friend also needs to trust that you not only won’t go after the person they’re interested in but also not bad mouth them.
A wingman has something good to say about their friend. When it’s appropriate, take advantage of opportunities to say interesting things about your friend. Think about things that would sound like bragging if your friend were to say them themselves. There’s no better way to establish credibility of your friend’s awesomeness than by speaking highly of him or her.
A wingman always has a great time. Any successful night out with your wingman starts with you two. It’s your job as the wingman to set the tone and make sure that no matter what happens, you two will have a blast. Consistently entertaining yourself and not allowing distractions to derail your night will inevitably make people gravitate toward you — people love meeting others who know how to have a good time!
Over the last month, Heart Friend has been answering your dating questions on Zoosk’s Facebook page. He’s had fun offering you his sage advice week after week, getting to know you guys, and helping you on your path to finding love and happiness. But now it’s time for Heart Friend to say goodbye – for now – with a final dating advice segment, fittingly on the topic of break ups. The final installment of From the Heart is about “the end”. How to handle it? Gracefully, hopefully, and he has a few words to say on the matter. We hope that you’ll watch before saying goodbye – for now – and if you’re going through a break up, we hope we can cheer you up at Zoosk. Because we date smarter. XO.
