It’s National Singles Week! In the spirit of the holiday, Zoosk reached out to professional wingman Thomas Edwards to get the scoop on being a great wingman or wingwoman for our single friends. Here’s what he had to say:
A wingman looks good. And makes their friend feel good. You will only look as good as your wingman. By both dressing well, it’s very easy for you to stand out — you may not even have to worry about approaching people as they may come up to you to compliment your style choices.
A wingman needs to be trusted and reliable. As a wingman, you follow your friend’s lead — but this doesn’t always mean you have to “take one for the team.” If your friend hits it off with someone, your primary responsibility is to keep their friend occupied so it doesn’t affect your friend’s chances. Your friend also needs to trust that you not only won’t go after the person they’re interested in but also not bad mouth them.
A wingman has something good to say about their friend. When it’s appropriate, take advantage of opportunities to say interesting things about your friend. Think about things that would sound like bragging if your friend were to say them themselves. There’s no better way to establish credibility of your friend’s awesomeness than by speaking highly of him or her.
A wingman always has a great time. Any successful night out with your wingman starts with you two. It’s your job as the wingman to set the tone and make sure that no matter what happens, you two will have a blast. Consistently entertaining yourself and not allowing distractions to derail your night will inevitably make people gravitate toward you — people love meeting others who know how to have a good time!
It has been over three years since I’ve been on your website, but I have a success story. When I started my account in summer of 2009, I was having difficulty finding Mr. Right. Then in 2010 after several failed attempts, road blocks and detours, I found and sent a wink to a man by the name of Scott.
We exchanged cell phone numbers and began talking to each other via text message when we agreed to meet face to face at Starbucks in Issaquah for coffee. We spent the evening not just having coffee, but also learning about each other, taking a walk around Fred Meyer all in three hours. We ended the evening with a kiss goodnight and agreed to go out again, becoming an official couple on our second date.
We celebrated our three year anniversary on August 25th of this year and have been discussing our future together. I truly owe it all to Zoosk, because if not for you, I would have felt lonely and never found true happiness.
Many, many congratulations to Lyneida and Manny for their incredible Zoosk success story! That video captures Manny’s real life proposal. It’s one of the most romantic things we have ever seen. Here’s how they met, as told by Lyneida:
Our story is still something I myself don’t always believe. My name is Lyneida and I had gotten on Zoosk by total curiosity at what a dating website was. I had no intentions on wanting to meet up with anyone. I was scared about the whole online dating thing, and I was going through a divorce and wasn’t fully ready to meet anyone seriously. But I was actually about to delete my account when I received this wonderfully written email. It was sweet and polite, and even though I had never responded to anyone on the website, I decided to write him back since he took the time to write me.
We emailed back and forth, and got on each others Facebook. It took me a few weeks, but we finally exchanged phone numbers and started texting. (I was scared, and paranoid lol). Finally after a little over a month we had our first date on January 20, 2010. It was the best date of my life. We started seeing each other after then non stop.
6 months into the relationship, in love with each other, Manny got diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma and went through 6 months of chemotherapy and one month of. Radiation. It was really hard, but he says I was his angel that came at the right time when he needed me most. And he did the same for me, with my divorce in my abusive relationship. He showed me what true love is, and what beautiful love can really be.
December 10, 2011 he proposed to me, and what better way than to show you. On December 15, 2012 we got married, and it has been a wonderful 8 months of marriage and almost 4 years together!!!! THANK YOU ZOOSK!!!! Truly and from the bottom of our heart and soul we thank you! We are so truly blessed to have found each other!!!

“It was late September 2009 I had not dated anyone for over 8 months and I felt it was time to start looking. Then I saw the Zoosk commercial (you know the one where the couple tangle in the bed room and the woman hurts her back). It wasn’t too long before I liked this beautiful little blond in pink and to my surprise she liked me back. After chatting on Zoosk for a while we discovered we both worked at the same company; same building only two floors apart for 5 years.
We decided to meet in early October to have drinks and if things went well dinner too. Well they went so well we had two drinks then went to dinner then a movie. When I finely dropped her off at her car we parted ways and couldn’t wait for our next date. Later she said that our date was the best date she had been on, and the dates got better and better.
